On April 5, 2019, Abdelrahman Hindi had an appointment scheduled at a dental clinic in Dokki, in the Giza Governorate of Egypt. Suddenly, while he was at the clinic, a group of individuals belonging to the State Security Forces entered the dentist’s clinic and arrested Hindi, along with two of his friends, Abdulrahman Ashraf and Ahmad Al Shawki.
On April 10, 2019, the family mandated a lawyer to inquire about Mr Hindi’s whereabouts. The lawyer made inquiries with the police stations of Dokki, in the Giza Governorate, and Bani Mazar, in the Menia Governorate, but to no avail.
On 17 December 2019, Mr Hind was seen by a former detainee at the State Security Directorate in the Menia Governorate. Hindi and his two friends, however, remain disappeared till this day.
On April 12, 2021, MENA Rights Group requested the intervention of the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances, calling on them to urge the Egyptian authorities to take action to locate Hindi and place him under the protection of the law.
