Following its fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review, Mauritania informed the Human Rights Council of its decision to accept 229 out of the 271 recommendations it had received. While Mauritania accepted the majority of recommendations, it rejected key ones notably on the 1993 amnesty law and on women’s rights.

Joint letter on the the adoption, by the Mauritanian parliament, of the Law on the protection of national symbols and criminalisation of offenses against the authority of the state and the honour of the citizen on November 9, 2021. The signatory organisations fear that this law will negatively impact the exercise of freedom of expression in Mauritania.
